This United Action is a collection of hand-picked Kinder-verified charities that are doing great work in different countries in LAC.
Much like other parts of the world, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) face challenges around poverty, inequality, unemployment and environmental changes. Many of the challenges are connected to its history with Spain. The dependence on unfair trade relationships, the incessant violence, racial discrimination, and inequality practically defined the region in the 19th Century. Further, many countries are working to escape ‘the middle-income trap’. While the region has emerged from low-income status, economic growth has not increased sufficiently to narrow the gap further. Inequalities often occur alongside gender, race, and ethnic lines. LAC is one of the most multi-ethnic regions of the world with large parts of the population being indigenous and/or of afro-descent. Despite their significant numbers, these groups are often at a disadvantage both in terms of economic well-being and access to opportunities. Lastly, like the rest of the world, the Covid-19 crisis caused regressive effects and revealed the vulnerability of many. Structural problems that have limited the region’s economic growth for decades were exacerbated by the pandemic and will limit the recovery in the future.
Each country and region of LAC faces a diverse set of challenges. And these need a diverse set of solutions.
