Problem
Unfair laws and policies and harmful practices of multinational companies keep people trapped in poverty and inequality. Communities need training and support to effectively advocate their opinions and claim their rights with impact. Governments need to change laws and regulations and hold large corporations accountable.

Solution
Our work falls into four broad areas: women (gender equality), fair politics and economics, land and climate justice, and emergency aid. We have a particular focus on women and women’s rights in all we do; it’s a thread that runs through all our work.
Our strategy is to build international momentum for social, economic and environmental justice, driven by people living in poverty and exclusion.
In practice, this means working closely with those change-making, brave people, civil society organizations, social movements and supporters. Together, we deliver grassroots programs, provide (women-led) emergency relief and campaign for things such as women’s economic rights, tax justice and climate justice.
ActionAid researches abuse, trains and mobilizes communities, and helps human rights advocates tell their story. This way we give reports and policy discussions a human face, and open doors to companies, media and ministries. Our aid and training happen via a bottom-up approach. Communities and people around the globe are more than capable to voice their own needs and wishes. That's why we work, based on the power in people.
We believe that a better future requires a systems change. Therefore, we lobby and advocate in the Netherlands, EU and the UN context.
